One of the most amazing competitions starts this Saturday in the UK: The legendary Tour de France!
I'm specially excited for this Tour because finally Portugal has a road bycicle racer as his team's leader and with good chances of reaching top 10: the Road World Champion Rui Costa, in the team Lampre. So I'll be cheering for him, but not only him. I'll cheer for every portuguese involved in this Tour.
As for the fight to win this Tour, I believe Froome, Contador, Nibali and maybe 2 or 3 more will give us a hell of a show.

Yes, I really appreciate this thread Tour de France is amazing (but mostly only when I also do something else ) and it always was... But we have the big Slovak cycling star - Peter Sagan so we have the another reason why watch the TdF! He is one of the best sprinters if not the best one on road and also he is a showman and he loves the fans. Cheer for him for having the 3rd consecutive green jersey which made only Erik Zabel with EPO before

I would like to see Rui Costa in yellow jersey, he was outstanding in the mountains the last year but it will be hard, I expect Froome will win it at all again. Anyway, this is really the 3rd sports event after the football World Cup and the Olympic Games so Im looking forward to this.

Rui Costa's Tour de France 2013 was ruined by Alejandro Valverde. He had to help Alejandro in an early stage and lost too many minutes to fight for the top 10. Then he did his best to win 1 stage (he won 2, both were magnificent victories). But this year he won't have to work for anybody... unless he has a bad day and loses too many minutes.
Btw I like Peter Sagan, he's not just a sprinter: he's a complete road bycicle racer (okay, he's not great in the mountains, but he's great in everything else).

Interesting first stage.
Jens Voigt was amazing! This is his last Tour de France (he's 2 months away of being 43 years old!) and I can see him going with the objective of winning the polka dot jersey (given to the winner of the mountain classification).
Shame on Cavendish though. He caused his own fall in the end, but I hope he's not injured and will continue in this Tour.
Nice 2nd place for Sagan and I think tomorrow he might win the stage and the yellow jersey.

I doubt Sagan can win today's stage in London even if it will be a sprinters' competition. He lost too much power yesterday when he was the only sprinter which passed all the mountains with top-favorites and tried shake off them. But it was smart by him (he had done this in the last TdF too), he gained the points while the sprinter opponents died in the mountains and they have nothing. Sagan doesn't have to win today, he can finish near by other sprinters and he is still a "winner".

And I hope Rui Costa can do it at all, while he was only the domestic last years and it ruined him, unfortunately. But he won the tough Tour of Suisse this year so it is a disadvantage for him and I expect he can die in the 3rd week of TdF. I hope I'm wrong.
