Hello!
As you requested, here I am to give you more info for the competition that made Phil kill his own forum and league.
One month ago, hnkbot and I discussed about some events, like that All-Star game and the Champions League. After that, he asked me about the Nations Cup. He wants to make it happen... It was a competition that started, but never ended and I don't think anyone liked it. I know there were many players excited about this and in that time there were many new players registering on forum just to play it, I think it's a competition that could make our Spaceball community grow!
I was reluctant to organize a Nations Cup after our 1st season, because it would look like we are just copying everything Phil did on his league and forum, but this competition is special and I think everyone wants to play it.
He wanted to organize this Nations Cup on this month, but I told him it was a bad timing because some players would be on vacations. Besides, our league requires every team to play 2 games per week and I don't think our players are active enough to play more games per week.
So, I told him "let's do this in September, after our season ends". And he agreed.
hknbot doesn't want to put nations together, but I told him it would be hard for some nations to join this Nations Cup if they're alone. There are some nations with only 1-2 players... So I convinced him to let some nations join together, but first we'll have a registrations phase to see which nations are able to have at least 3 players (minimum required).
There will be, at least, 4 nations coming from the russian forum: Russia, Ukraine, Bielorus, Armenia.
We have: Germany, France, Netherlands, UK, Croatia, Turkey, Poland, Portugal, Spain, USA. Then there are nations with only 1-2 players, like Slovakia, Italy, Austria, Norway, Estonia, Tunisia, Serbia. I believe I forgot some nations, and I'm sure other nations would join our forum just to play this, like Bosnia did in Phil's forum.
Format: Olympic Games format. 1vs1, 2vs2 and 3vs3 will all be independent from each other. This means we could have 3 different nations winning.
I thought about some rules for this and here's what I came up with:
- Each Nation has to register 1-2 players for 1vs1, 2-4 players for 2vs2 and 3-6 players for 3vs3;
- Players are only allowed to play in 1-2 categories;
- Nations that can't find 3 players for 3vs3 are still allowed to register on 1vs1 and 2vs2 tournaments;
- 2 halves of 3 minutes each for 1vs1 (Small map), 2 halves of 5 minutes each for 2vs2 (Medium map), 2 halves of 7 minutes each for 3vs3 (Big map). No score limit.
Give your opinions, critics... I'm sure you will disagree with something, so say it. Give more ideas for this, more rules... All will be welcome!
