Before the start of a new WSbC a lot of people probably still remember previous tournament, which was held by levski. Even though the organization efforts were top-notch, a lot of teams played rather lazily, because everyone already played with everyone and knew each other a bit too well, so there was nothing really new for all people involved, thus we didn't see true spaceball. And that's why the first one and the only one WSbC will stay the most important event in the history of SpaceSports.
The first group was represented by the teams Armenia, Turkey, Balkan and United Kingdom. Unfortunately, Balkan were weakened from the start by the fake in their team that soon vanished, and United Kingdom didn't get any half-decent players, so they've lost in pretty much every match. Turkey stands out a little bit, but it was really hard for them to make a difference, if only because of Armenia's spaceball was one of the most developed during that period.
The second group was the group of death for Belarus, but even so they've managed to oppose their opponents on 3v3. What made the group truly interesting was the Brazil team. Even with the problematic ping they used to be the real treat for their opponents. But the most interesting part, especially for those who look closely at the scene, was the 1v1 match between two professional players Bia and Chicco, who represented two radically different developments of spaceball. Chicco was so sure in his victory and played rather roughly at the start, until he started to lose. But pro is still pro, so his signature powershot made this match end with a tie on last seconds.
Another potentional champion, Germany, annihilated Brazil without any real problems (7-0) and left the group on the first place. And the Portugal team was right behind them. No one even dreamed of trying to stop lorZ-Chicco-@cody on 3v3.
But where the serious shit started, it was in the third group. Not only France and Ukraine started to hate each other after that incident, it made Ukraine players to split and fall apart. This was the last time when Ukraine succeeded to gather every colour of their nation in the team. Even bouncers, who went through special training because of this event, played with them. The tension before the match was so strong that Ukraine completely massacared their first opponent, Spain, with 7-0 score during 3v3 (things didn't go as smoothly with during other matches though). Then Ukraine lost in 1v1 match against France and didn't play other matches because of hosts conflicts. These were the last matches for Ukraine. Their captain domeq totally failed to organize anything because of same conflict, so organizators gave everyone who participated in the conflict defloses. Ukraine didn't go furtherer.
The fourth group was really remarkable if only because there were two finalists of this tournament - Russia and ItaRia. Shaking off Netherlands and USA without breaking a sweat, both teams reached playoff where happened the most interesting matches of WSbC. Russia met the Poland team (or Polakia, because of presence of Vida there), but it was Vida who completely fucked up to make a difference in the last few seconds during 3v3, and couldn't take a ball to empty gates of Russia. Maybe Polakia could manage to make a tie and win in OT, but they've lost with score 4-2. The match between France and Turkey was completely uninteresting. But Armenia winning over Portugalia was something nobody could expect. Chicco lost his 1v1 to Petr Čech on the last seconds. Was it lag or just Lady Fortune bestowed her blessings, nobody really knows. Another surprising thing were ties during two other phases. Because of that 1v1 victory Armenia managed to overtake the place of one of the most powerful teams in this tournament. ItaRia (similar to Polakia in their structure) surprised everyone with ther winning over Germany too. Their tactics was rather interesting, as Biscuits was winning in 1v1, lenzi and SanRoo did their own thing during 2v2, and because of their upper hand in score they could play in 3v3 being calm. That's what happened with poor Germany.
It's time for semifinals. Unfortunately, the Armenia couldn't avoid the fate of Germany. But semifinals mathes between Russia and France could easily come off as legit finals! Captain of the team France, Insigne, didn't lose any match during 1v1. With their super-chem teamplay, France utterly destroyed their opponents during 2v2. And no words can describe what happened during 3v3. But the fate decided to neglect France. Alt was really hard opponent for Insigne to beat and their match ended with a tie. Russia vs France - 1-1. During the 2v2, kad, the captain of Russia, for some reason decided not to include their most prominent player KoVolt, so this match ended up as total defeat for Sebastian and Pepsi. Russia vs France - 1-3. With score like this France only needed one tie during 3v3, but the only option left for Russia was victory. Weird decision-making by kad showed off here too: without waiting for KoVolt, he used bench GK for whom this match was really stressful. Without KoVolt and kad as GK anything could've happened with their team, but not 2-0 in the first half against Insigne, tukk and Yio. In spite of that, it actually happened. Now it's time for some real action, or the most crucial moment of this tournament. Insigne, gotze and Drogba started to fight. Players of Russia couldn't keep up with their tempo, as they've never gave them any break with their fierce attacks. Soon France scored twice. So much desired tie was in the reach of their hands, but then, with help of inexperienced player Сирень, Russia managed to seize the opportunity and make the leap forward.
The end was near. Suddenly, the pressing of gotze took Drogba in front of empty gates, but X reflex betrayed him in the single most important moment! This was the end. On the last seconds Russia tied period against the most dangerous squad in the world. Russia vs France - 4-3.
There is a reason why this match considered true final. The actual finals went without serious issues. Alt won Biscuits 1v1 easily, lenzi and SanRoo messed up their absolute duo's strategy, and 3v3 felt like a public match. Russia won over ItaRia. The tournament was over. It happened long time ago, so a lot of things from these times are now gone. With Drogba, @brano and gotze leaving spaceball France lost their frightening aura. On the other hand, with newfound power of teams Turkey, Germany and couple of others, this tournament has some potential to be on the same level of tension and intrigue as the previous one.
