I can see that some teams are more successful than others in the League and thought I would pass on some advice to the newer captains and teams as to how to get the best out of both your team and the League.
The most important thing is communication. You need to keep in touch with your team members and everyone needs to be aware of what has been arranged, particularly in regards to League matches. It is important that if you have agreed to be available for a certain time that you stick to that otherwise you are not only letting your team down but you are also letting down the players from the other team who have to wait for you.
There are many ways to communicate with your team. I found that the best is via group email. This way it ensures that everyone receives the messages and everyone can see each other's messages. The other ways to keep in touch are on the forum (you can send group private messages) or on Skype or TeamSpeak for live chat (these are ideal for arranging the team just prior to matches).
Secondly, it is essential that all team members, particularly the captain are active! It is better that you play regularly with your team and get to know them and how they play. You can organise your own room to have training sessions against anyone who joins the room or arrange friendly matches against other teams. The more you play together the stronger you will get as a team.
I would recommend that as a team you all share tips and discuss tactics. You may spot a flaw in a team member's game, so tell him about it and how to improve it! You may want your team to play in certain ways in certain situations. You may have spotted a weakness in the opposition team - share it and it may lead to a win for your team!
I would recommend having a 'deputy' captain for your team. This person can help run the team in your absence so that your team doesn't go inactive if you aren't able to get online for any reason (ie. too busy or sickness).
You may want to consider having a 'team code'. We all sign up to a contract for the League but you may want to create your own set of rules for the team to follow to ensure that everyone is doing their best for the team. Your team could agree, for example, to meet and train every Thursday night or agree that you will always meet on TeamSpeak 15 minutes before a game to discuss the starting line-up and tactics.
